Weekend Family Escapes Are Good For Families | 106.7 WTLC

Ground Rules It may be constructive for the entire family to create a list of ?dos and don?ts? for the extended weekend. One example might be to leave electronics at home. If a cell phone is compulsory for an emergency circumstance, it can be left in the ?off? position. Another idea is to ban all negativity. There should be no discussion of the last report card grades or who doesn?t like someone?s friend. This is a time for laughter, smiles, and excitement with each other that is full of affirmative experiences.

Take into Consideration Constructing a plan is essential to ensure a tranquil weekend. Parents must decide if they would like to surprise their brood or include them in the preparation. Deciding how long is spent in transit is important. Make certain to take full advantage of the time doing fun things together and not traveling for the bulk of it.

Since this is a mini-vacation for the entire family, make sure to incorporate at least one activity that each person will enjoy?Something unique just for him or her. These amazing weekends are perfect for produce memories that will last a lifetime.

Ideas Since each family is distinctive, there is no right or wrong answer when choosing the destination for a weekend getaway. It can be as undemanding or as extravagant as time and budget allow. To spend very little money and stay close to home, reserving a hotel room in a nearby city may be just the thing the family needs. Be sure the hotel includes a pool and either movie rental or DVD access. Once there, hours can be spent playing in the pool as a family, ordering take out, and watching movies. A Bed and Breakfast could be substituted as well. They tend to go to great extremes to make your stay unforgettable.

Camping is an additional reasonably priced weekend outing. Without the distractions from home such as television, phones, console games, and so forth, families can spend uninterrupted time together hiking, swimming, playing board games, and telling campfire stories. Children love to hear stories about when mom and dad were little. Camping is a versatile option because there are lots of campsites across the entire United States.

PFT: Steelers give Brown 5-year, $42.5M deal

AP

49ers receiver Randy Moss did a lot of talking on UStream after he decided to return to the NFL and before he found a team.? Since finding a team, he hasn?t done much talking.

On Friday at training camp, he did.

?These guys here love to work, they love to compete and they know just by me signing here it?s just something that me being around a great group of guys [who are] young and enthusiastic makes me feel young, too,? Moss said in comments broadcast on ESPN?s NFL Live.? ?The love that I have for the game of football is gonna always be in me and I just wanna play football and that?s just really being here and Coach Harbaugh and this organization accepting me and bringing me here was just something hopefully I can give something back in return and that?s with my play and my presence out on and off the field.?

Also on Friday, coach Jim Harbaugh continued with the gushing that has emanated from multiple members of the organization throughout the offseason.? ?The funnest part is out on the practice field,? Harbaugh said.? ?I get some joy being around Randy Moss out there.? He?s got a knack for saying the right thing at the right time.? The right joke at the right time.?

The joke ultimately may be on those who are ready to write off Randy?s chances of playing well in 2012.? After his comments were played during NFL Live and Herm Edwards said Moss could catch 10 touchdown passes this year, Adam Schefter and Bill Polian were skeptical, to say the least.

?Ten touchdowns is awfully high for a player who was out of football last year, who had a minimal impact the year before, who basically hasn?t made a contribution ? a meaningful contribution ? since 2009,? Schefter said.? ?There?s a spot for him in the San Francisco 49ers offense.? But we?re not getting the 25-year-old Randy Moss, we?re getting the 35-year-old Randy Moss.?

Polian was more blunt.

?The guy I saw two years ago, played against was not the Randy Moss who set records in New England,? Polian said.? ?I didn?t see any explosion, didn?t see any speed.? [Editor's note:? Darrelle Revis may disagree.]? So, he?ll have to make a believer out of me.? If he?s doing well by Week Eight then he?s back.? Otherwise, I have my doubts.?

It would be easy to agree, given the manner in which Moss disappeared in Tennessee after being essentially fired by two teams in less than a month.? But two factors could prove them wrong.

First, the praise of Moss from his teammates, both for his performance and his attitude, has been universal and unequivocal.? Everyone in San Fran loves the guy, and everyone who has seen him work since joining the 49ers believes he can still get it done.

Second, we?ve seen this movie before from Moss.? After his second year with the Raiders in 2006, the popular view was that Moss was washed up, that he was done, that he couldn?t run.

Rejuvenated by a trade to the Patriots, Moss ran down Jerry Rice?s record for single-season touchdown receptions, propelling the Pats to the first undefeated 16-game season.

When Randy?s head isn?t in it, it doesn?t matter what his body can do.? When Randy is ready to go, his team will get the best of whatever he has.

The point is that we shouldn?t assume anything about Randy?s physical abilities based on what we saw in 2010 because his performance was hampered by the fact that he didn?t care.

He cares now.

?I play when I wanna play.?? It arguably belongs on his tombstone.? For now, it should prompt anyone who thinks based on 2010 that he won?t have it in 2012 to think again.

How to Install Faux Wainscoting on Walls | Danny Lipford

Watch this video to find out how to get the look of wainscoting by mitering stock base cap molding, then applying it to the wall with construction adhesive.

Faux Wainscoting Materials List

Faux wainscoting panels for an average size room costs about $80. Materials required include:

• Base cap molding
• Construction adhesive
• Finishing nails
• Wood glue
• Painter?s putty
• Paint

Installing Faux Wainscoting

Here?s how to go about adding faux wainscoting to the walls in your room:

1. Measure: Determine the height and length of each section of wall. Subtract 9? from the height and cut the molding to length, so there will be a 4?? gap between the baseboard, chair rail, and walls.
2. Cut Molding: Make 45? angle miter cuts the each end of the molding and cut the pieces to the length needed.
3. Layout Mitered Frames: Layout the four mitered pieces for each frame, and glue and nail the corners together as you would a picture frame. Predrill the holes in the molding to prevent splitting.
4. Paint Molding: Apply primer and two coats of paint to the molding before installing it.
5. Attach Frames to Wall: Use construction adhesive to attach the frames to the wall, using equal length scraps of wood between the floor and molding to align the frames. Apply nails in the wall studs if needed to hold the molding firmly in place.
6. Finishing Touches: Set nails below the surface, and fill any holes with spackling. Touch up filled nail holes or imperfections with paint.

While we can't answer them all, we may use your question on our Homefront radio show, Today?s Homeowner TV show, or online at dannylipford.com.

A popular look for many homes is to install a chair rail molding painted the same color as the trim, and paint the wall below the chair rail a contrasting color to the wall paint above the molding. If you have this in your home, here?s a way to add even more to the rich look by creating a faux wainscoting panel at a fraction of the cost.

Begin by sectioning off the walls in the room. The sections can be the area between doors and windows. For larger spans, divide them into spaces to match other sections in the room as closely as possible.

Next, add the perimeter measurements of each section as though you were measuring the four sides of a rectangle. Your perimeter should be the line above the baseboard, below the chair rail and the height between the two moldings. Add 10% to the sum total of your measurements and round up to the nearest foot. This is the amount of linear feet of base cap molding you want to pick up at the store.

Measure the height and width of each section and subtract nine from each. This will give you the four sides of the faux panel and provide a 4?? border around the finished base cap molding. Before cutting the base cap, it?s a good idea to prime and paint it ahead of time. This way, once installed, all you have to do is touch up the paint as needed.

With measurements in hand and using a power miter saw, cut four pieces of molding for each section ? two vertical pieces and two horizontal. The vertical pieces for every section should be identical, since the height of your sections should be the same. Cut each one at a 45-degree angle, so when placed together, they form a rectangular box inside each section.

Attach the four pieces of the rectangle together by predrilling a pilot hole in each corner and nailing with a finish nail. It?s also a good idea to keep the joints together by applying a thin layer of quality wood glue to the angles prior to nailing them together.

To keep the molding at the proper height, cut a few scraps so when the molding rectangles sit on top, they are precisely 4?? from the top of the baseboard. Instead of nailing the molding to the wall, use a high quality, heavy-duty construction adhesive. Occasionally, if the wall has a little bow, you may need a nail or two to cinch the molding in place.

Fill any nail holes with painter?s putty and touch up the paint, and your faux wainscoting is complete.

'Modern Family' Feuds, 'American Idol' Additions And More: What TV Taught Us This Week

What TV taught us this week.

Each week, outrageous, sad, shocking and hilarious pieces of TV news hit the web. Shows get canceled, directors get fired, casts get angry -- and like anything in life, each news-worthy event usually comes with a lesson.

At HuffPost TV, we strive to dig up the best, most relevant pieces of news to share with our readers. From Mariah Carey's decision to join the "American Idol" judges panel to the ongoing "Modern Family" legal feud, click through the slideshow below to see our favorite TV news moments from this week -- and what we learned from them.

• Mariah Carey Signs On As An "American Idol" Judge

The Event: After Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez jumped the "American Idol" ship in the same week, fans of the singing competition series worried it was on its way out. But on Monday, Mariah Carey signed on to the show. "As a singer, songwriter and producer, it's going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with 'American Idol,'" she said. The Lesson: There's always another diva ready to replace you.

• "Modern Family" Cast Sues 20th Century Fox

The Event: On Tuesday, the Season 4 "Modern Family" table read was canceled because cast members Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Sofia Vergara, and Ed O'Neill felt they weren't being paid enough. After their request for $200,00 per episode was denied, the cast took the battle to court citing California's "7 Year Rule," which prohibits personal services contracts for longer than 7 years. The Lesson: You can never have enough money.

• Scarves Aren't Going Anywhere On "Smash."

The Event: Throughout Season 1 of "Smash," the use of scarves in every episode and on practically every character was mercilessly mocked. Vulture had a blast tearing apart Debra Messing's wardrobe (which included scarves upon scarves), and HuffPost compiled an entire slideshow highlighting scarf appearances. There were 26 of them. 26! Unfortunately, NBC hasn't shaken up the "Smash" style for Season 2. This week, Katharine McPhee was spotted on set wearing -- you guessed it -- a scarf. The Lesson: Old fashion habits die hard.

• "Downton Abbey" Will Say Goodbye

The Event: Despite the critical success of "Downton Abbey," producer Gareth Neame has quashed any rumors that we'll be growing old with Lady Mary. "We have to balance between continuing to make it for audiences around the world that adore it and making sure that we don't take it too far," he explained to THR. "Which is not now and not next year, but likely five years or six years, not 10 years." The Lesson: All good things must come to an end.

• The Dwight Schrute "Office" Spinoff Is A Real Thing

The Event: Despite the downward spiral of "The Office" -- especially since Steve Carrell's departure at the end of Season 7 -- Fans are all for a spinoff show ... especially where Dwight Schrute is concerned. On Wednesday, NBC president Jennifer Salke leaked a few details. "Rainn (Wilson) came in and talked about what he wanted to do with the spinoff," she told Hitfix. "And they made the decision at the show to incorporate it as an episode." The Lesson: Milk it for all its worth.

• A Sleep Disorder Stops "Fringe" From Filming

The Event: This week, Fox's "Fringe" actor John Noble was diagnosed with a sleep disorder. While Noble's illness was originally only supposed to put him out for three days, THR reported that production would be halted until August. The Lesson: Sleep is more important than TV.

• Dan Harmon Nears A Fox Pilot Deal

The Event: After being fired from "Community" for being difficult to work with, another network jumped on Dan Harmon's creative genius: Fox is reportedly nearing a deal to develop a multi-camera comedy pilot. The Lesson: Just because someone isn't that into you, doesn't mean you won't find someone else who is.

• Matthew Weiner Admits Peggy Will Be Back

The Event: Revealing any details about upcoming "Mad Men" episodes is the most sacrilegious thing a cast member of the AMC series can do. Elisabeth Moss (Peggy Olson) skated around the question of whether she would be returning for Season 6 for months! But when push came to shove, creator Matthew Weiner couldn't keep his mouth shut and admitted Peggy wasn't going anywhere. "[Elisabeth Moss] is going to be on the show next year," he revealed to TVLine on Thursday. The Lesson: Some secrets are too good to keep.

• The Cast Of "Don't Trust The B----" Goes After Katie Holmes

The Event: In the spirit of a Dawson-Joey reunion, James Van Der Beek expressed his interest in having Katie Holmes appear on his new show, "Don't Trust The B---- In Apartment 23." He told TV Guide he would to see her "saucier side." Bring on the 30-something angst! The Lesson: We do wanna wait for a This "Dawson's Creek" reunion (and always will).

• "The Killing" Gets Canceled
