Google Freezes Market Availability of 16GB Nexus 7

Problems on its supply chain and early screen complaints apparently overwhelmed the normally cool internet giant as Google announced on Monday that will stop taking online orders for the hit Nexus 7 tablet.

The order freeze specifically affects the 16GB Nexus variant, future availability of which will be revealed to would-be buyers in the United States and United Kingdom.

Buyers located in the two countries can sign up for email notifications via the Google Play stores, Google said.

The decision was reached following reports that the Nexus has flied off store shelves in record speed, creating a supply vacuum that both Google and AsusTek said will not be filled until mid-August this year.

Analysts can only surmised that the normally efficient Google had miscalculated the demands that will be generated by the Nexus 7, which it released globally in two models - the 8GB and 16GB priced at $US199 and $US249 respectively.

Despite the affordable price tags, the gadget was deployed with quad-core processor and HD screen resolution that more than meet the requirements of average users, who experts said will find the new device greatly useful for web surfing and multimedia purposes.

The gadget is mainly geared to lure new Android users, probably even switchers from iPad, who may find the products' price and core features reason enough to jump over, or maybe use the hardware in enjoying the best that both Android and iOS can offer.

And the reactions were more than what Google had anticipated as the company was forced to deal with problematic supply issues and minor problems that marred Nexus 7's market debut.

According to tech blog site SmartHouse, early buyers reported issues with the glass screen of the Nexus 7, with one user claiming that his unit's front face was slightly coming off the edge.

Some users also reported dead pixels on their screen, according to tech blog sites accounts.

The same site reported too that Google had acknowledged the troubles and blamed early production glitches as the main reason, with assurances that such instances were isolated and should not be forthcoming once freshly manufactured units become available anew.

So the 16GB model will be off the market for now as Google clarified that 8GB variant remains in circulation can be ordered online, exclusively at Google Play for the moment.

But for those really itching to try out the new brick slate minus the wait, Mashable suggested buyers to dig on eBay, where the product may be available brand new or slightly used.
