Huntsville native, former NFL player gives back

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF)- Huntsville native and former NFL football player, Rashad Moore, is giving back to the community.

Moore is hosting his first ever celebrity charity event this weekend to benefit children and programs around the city.

He is the founder and creator of Red Zone Kids and Community Foundation. The focus is to mentor student athletes and educate them on the dangers of childhood obesity.

"You didn't see the kids the size that they are now back when I was growing up, and?I think it was a situation that needs to be touched," Moore said.

Moore has invited several of his NFL friends to come and kick off his event. Kids will get a chance to meet and greet players like Jason Allen, Donte' Stallworth, Darian Stewart and many others.

There will be a celebrity bowling tournament, a football camp and a community fun day.

AJ, a camp participant, said having Moore as a mentor means a lot.

"It makes us feel good that we know that we can have somebody who cares about us and comes in and teaches us different stuff," said AJ.

Moore said he's wanted to give back to his community for a long time.

"To come out and see the kids, brighten their day, it does something in my heart as well. And?I feel like it's something that I need to do. I owe the kids this.?I mean,?I was able to make it out of here and it gives them hope to make it out of here as well," said Moore.
